I’m new to Moroccan cooking, and I’ve seen many recipes call for a tajine pot. Is it really necessary, or can I use other cookware?

A tajine pot is great for slow-cooking and retaining moisture, but you can use a Dutch oven or any heavy-bottomed pot as a substitute if you don’t have one.

While a tajine pot adds authenticity, you can make most Moroccan dishes in a regular pot. Just make sure to cook over low heat to mimic the slow cooking method.

A tajine pot is not essential, but it enhances the flavors by slow-cooking. If you don’t have one, a slow cooker or Dutch oven works just fine.
