I’ve seen many Moroccan recipes that involve grinding spices. Do I need a mortar and pestle, or can I use an electric grinder?

While a mortar and pestle is traditional, an electric grinder works just as well for grinding spices. However, using a mortar and pestle can help release more of the spices’ flavors.

You can use an electric grinder for convenience, but a mortar and pestle gives a more authentic texture and helps release the essential oils of the spices.

A mortar and pestle isn’t strictly necessary, but many people prefer it for Moroccan cooking because it releases the oils and aromas of spices more effectively than an electric grinder.
