I’m trying to make authentic couscous at home and wondered if I need a specific type of pot to steam it. Is there a traditional tool for this?

Yes, traditionally, couscous is steamed in a couscoussier, a double-layered pot where the couscous sits on top, and the bottom holds boiling water or broth.

A couscoussier is the traditional tool for steaming couscous. It has two parts: one for steaming the couscous and one for cooking the broth or stew underneath.

While a couscoussier is traditional, you can also use a regular steamer or sieve over a pot of boiling water to steam couscous if you don’t have one.
