I don’t have a traditional tagine pot but want to make Moroccan tagines. Can I use a slow cooker instead?

Yes, you can definitely use a slow cooker to make tagines. Just make sure to brown the meat and sauté the onions and spices first to build flavor before adding everything to the slow cooker.

A slow cooker works well for tagines as it mimics the low and slow cooking of a traditional tagine pot. Start with less liquid than you’d usually use since the slow cooker retains moisture.

While the texture might be slightly different from a traditional tagine, the flavors will still be rich and delicious. Add dried fruits and nuts at the end of cooking to avoid over-softening them.
