I’ve had sfenj from a street vendor, and it was delicious! How is it different from other types of donuts?

Sfenj is lighter and chewier than most Western donuts. It’s made with a simple yeast dough, fried until golden, and usually served plain or dusted with sugar.

Unlike most donuts, sfenj is not very sweet. It’s more about the texture—crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Traditionally, it’s enjoyed with a cup of mint tea.

The dough for sfenj doesn’t contain eggs or butter, making it less rich than other donuts. It’s fried until crispy and often eaten fresh, straight from the fryer.
